Kabul Police Academy

Set Ref:196

Date:29/01/2010

The police training facility in Kabul is one of several police training sites within the province. 520 students enroll for the eight-week basic course, designed to give an Afghan National Police member the necessary skills to stay alive and respond to the needs of community. Training capacity currently is not enough to meet demand. Many untrained policemen remain in the force.
The Afghan Army's Military Training Centre is just outside Kabul. British, American and other NATO troops train and mentor thousands of Afghan National Army soldiers each month. Soldiers are recruited from all over Afghanistan for basic infantry and core military skills essential for fighting the Taliban. After graduating they deploy to the various provinces in ethnically-mixed teams.
Some deploy to live and fight alongside British soldiers in Operational Mentoring and Liaison Teams in Helmand province's Green Zone, where fierce fighting with insurgents takes place.
