Changing Greenland

A scientific scramble is under way to clarify whether the erosion of the world's most vulnerable ice sheets in Greenland can continue to accelerate. You can't see climate change in action, much to the disappointment of photographers and magazine editors. Warming is a function of time, and we see it only as time passes. In less than a human lifetime - barely the blink of an eye in geologic time - a way of life millenniums old will be lost here.
Many Greenlanders are experiencing the difference between 'then' and 'now' in their everyday lives. Whereas earlier they fished from boats in the summer and through holes cut in the ice during the winter, it is now possible to fish from boats all year round at several places in Greenland. Until the 1990s places that saw sea ice during the winter months have not had any permanent sea ice during the last 10 years.
